The Birds of Tra Que Village

Nestled on an island in the Thu Bồn River delta, the village of Tra Quê unfolds in soft shades of green and blue, between lush gardens and peaceful waters.

In this serene natural setting, ornithologists Rick and Sonya have recorded over 40 species of birds – a hidden treasure in the haven that is La Maison d’Indochine.

🌿 Garden side, you’ll find Coucals, Barbets, Bulbuls, and Cuckoos flitting through trees, hedges, and crops from sunrise to sunset.

🌾 Riverside, among the rice paddies and wetlands, Egrets, Herons, Moorhens, Kingfishers, and Sandpipers keep company with water buffalo, feasting on mollusks, amphibians, and fish.

🕗 Birdwatching tips

  • Bring along: binoculars, notebook, phone, and a bit of patience

  • Observation ethics: walk slowly and quietly, stay on the paths, respect habitats, and avoid feeding the birds
